In Summer 2019, Argonaut announced a new partnership with the Spirit of America Foundation, a not-for-profit public service organization that primarily serves the nation’s youth by offering America’s Premier Youth Boating Education Programs. The  PHASTAR location is one of 19 Spirt of America locations across the United States and will service students at Davis Aerospace and Maritime High School as well as other Cuyahoga County youth.

Argonaut launched the program in Summer 2020 to a small group of Davis A&M students who were interested in engaging in an in-person learning opportunity during the March 2020 to March 2021 period of time during which all CMSD schools were remote-only learning due to COVID-19. When hybrid learning was offered in Spring 2021, Argonaut again offered the program to those interested in participating in in-person programming.  This session was held in June/July 2021, and a second session was offered in mid-to-late July to both Davis students and other youth from throughout Cuyahoga County.

For 2022, Argonaut will be offering the program once again to students at Davis A&M, but because fully in-person schooling resumed for the 2021-22 school year, it will be offered to all 9th grade students during the Spring as a part of their Maritime Science class.  This was the original plan for the program. Argonaut works with the Maritime Science teacher at Davis A&M to integrate the program into the school’s curriculum.

Beginning in the 2022-23 school year, Spirit of America will shift to being offered at the start of the school year in August as a way to kick-off the new year and give freshmen a shared experience.  Therefore, no community programs will be offered in Summer 2022, however we hope to resume those in Summer 2023.

The Spirit of America program offers a hands-on, water-based educational program where youth learn through teamwork hands-on skills for boating safety. The participants become the captains of their own vessels, and learn skills to sail, canoe, kayak, paddle board, PWC, and power boat. They also learn to work together as a team with the underlying goals including a variety of self-developing skills such as self-esteem, confidence, and empowerment. Most importantly they will be receiving lifelong skills on and off the water and learn a respect for our environment.  For further information about the national Spirit of America program and curriculum, please visit their website at
