Marine Safety Services

PHASTAR launched its Marine Safety Services program in the summer of 2018, and quickly caught the eye of local marine enthusiasts. The PHASTAR 2543 rescue boat patrolled the Cuyahoga River throughout the summer, making sure that the river was safe for both large commercial vessels and recreational boaters and paddlers who share the river. The boat was at all times staffed by a Captain and a lifeguard or paramedic, and students from Davis A&M got the chance to put their newly acquired lifeguard certifications to good use by working on the boat this summer to earn some extra money. Some of the medical/rescue covered events attended by PHASTAR in its inaugural boating season included: Cleveland Race Week Sailing Regatta, USA Triatholon in Cleveland, Off Shore Power Boat Races (Mentor), Blazing Paddles Paddle Board Race on the Cuyahoga, US Sailing Chanpionships/Hinman Trophy, numerous concerts at Nautica Pavilion, and Head of the Cuyahoga Rowing Regatta.
