An important message from PHASTAR President D. Andrew Ferguson

Thank you for all of the Birthday Wishes!!!  Despite current events, I can honestly say I am living my dream.

As most of you know, almost ten years ago I launched a non-profit organization built from my personal experiences and passions, PHASTAR Corporation.   PHASTAR addresses the needs and desires of our Northeast Ohio community through innovative programming.   We have accomplished a great deal of progress over the past decade through the passion and dedication of our incredible team.  PHASTAR’s greatest accomplishment is the creation of the Davis Aerospace and Maritime High School.  The school is awesome, not just in concept, but in practice.  It is built upon a unique relationship between PHASTAR and the Cleveland Metropolitan School District.  Davis is guided by an extremely talented and committed team of educators, staff and administrators from both PHASTAR and CMSD.  Davis A&M’s success is a result of this team and our motivated students and families.  We are empowering our students to bring about positive change in Northeast Ohio and beyond.

We are clearly facing an unknown future.  However, the PHASTAR team has chosen not to sit back and wait for answers.  We are driving forward providing solutions.  Our Davis A&M students will require additional support to finish this school year.  Students continue to work on private pilot licenses, with their flight instructor switching to an online instruction format.  Our maritime instructors are making preparations to deliver the next session of Ohio Boater Education Courses to our Davis students through a remote classroom setting.  PHASTAR is working with Davis leadership and staff to provide complete support.  Every student and family will be contacted to determine their personal, school and family needs.  PHASTAR has created voicemail and email accounts for students and families to reach out with questions, concerns or requests.  We will provide a link to the resources needed, guaranteeing that all of our students and families are receiving the assistance they need to get through the current crisis.

With Davis A&M closed for the foreseeable future, we have relocated some of the fabrication lab equipment to 1776 in order to be able to support the fight against COVID-19.  Mr. Smith has been busy refining and producing the first round of Personal Protective Equipment to be given to the Cuyahoga County Emergency Management Agency.  We will be providing 70 Reusable Splash Shields as a first run demo.  We will then respond to additional requests as needs are identified.  We continue to monitor the situation and will offer our Davis A&M FabLab students employment operating this production in the near future.  We continue to empower our students to be a part of the solution.

Anticipating an earlier and busier boating season, our Marine Safety Vessel will be ready to take to the water this week.  PHASTAR 2543, aka Liddle Blue, returns for the 2020 boating season with its standard crew of Captain, Medic, Water Rescue/Lifeguard, and deck crew.  PHASTAR 2543 provides large vessel escorts, safety patrol and emergency medical/rescue response.

While PHASTAR’s services continue to meet demand, our funding is not as clear.  We have applied for SBA assistance and continue to pursue grant opportunities.  Private donations have become difficult to secure with meetings and fundraisers no longer viable.  Your support is critical now more than ever.  Please, if you have the financial means, go to http://phastar.org/donate  No donation amount is too small…or too large!!!

Thank you for your continued interest and support. My promise is that we will continue to maintain the highest level of dedication and commitment to the PHASTAR mission in our community.
